OFF THE ROADS

i was recently travelling through mavoor road and was walking through the footpath. i heard someone sounding his horn. i turned back to see what it was. There was a person in a bike who wanted to drive through the footpath. even after knowing that it was not fair, i let the person go. i still dont know why.

we can see a similar situation wherever there are humps on the road. if there is a hump and there is a small gap, we can see bike drivers taking there bikes through that small gap risking their lives plus the lives of civilians.

why is this hurry for people? Its like people have time for everything else but not to obey the traffic rules. funny world isn't it? The policemen who have to look at this are more concerned about people not wearing helmets and seat belts, while the people who are wearing HELLmets are riding through footpaths.

Another incident which recently happened was that, a goods auto had hit a brand new indica car. These guys were quarreling about the expense of each. To my shock the auto driver had stopped his vehichle right in the middle of the road and he was standing on the road side and quarreling. There was neither a policeman nor a normal civilian there who tried to tell the auto driver to be gone with his vehichle. i had to stand in that traffic for approximately about 45 minutes.

Question ourselves as to whether we follow all the traffic rules properly. If yes, react to these. God has made mankind able to react to such instances. So react and change the situation. Lets do it now.

  2. Hi Ananthu,

You have written about a very relevant issue. The insensitivity of Indians to traffic rules is appaling. People like us who want to follow the rules become extremely frustrated. We are forced to be aggressive in order to compete with the unruly traffic. The other thing i notice is the obsession with cell phones. People are talking on it while driving. Even two wheelers drive with one hand sometimes. And pedestrians talk while crossing the road, paying no heed to the traffic

Let us hope for change and let it start with us. Next time we see someone not obeying traffic rules, let us try to talk to him/her and appeal to his sense of reason.

Being the US now, I am greatly impressed by the discipline of people in a public place. Traffic signals and stop signs are strictly observed. Pedestrians are given great repect while crossing the road. In fact cars stop voluntarily to let them go.

I do hope our society soon becomes more responsible and sensitive

  3. Hi!
how true.. wat an irresponsible bunch we're all turning into.. One more question though- why're they drivin on footpaths in the first place?? take mavoor road near d fly over- there's no road left, only holes..u tend to forgive the bikers.. but our mentality of fighting in the middle of the road is totally unique!! hope that'll change..
    all the best!
    Keep posting Ananthu, good work...

  4. Thanx for the comments guys. Mavoor road may be full of holes but even then it is a road through which bikes can go without much prbm. Due to the construction of the flyover thats going on there, its a bit too crowded. ppl in bikes are in a hurry. so they tend to take it through the footpath.footpaths there are much more crowded though but the ppl on the footpath tend to move so as to allow the bikes to go.
